2022 BIG BREW DAY - IMPERIAL STOUT

The ALES Club hasn’t hosted a Big Brew Day since May 2019, and the wait brought out a higher number of members and potential/future homebrewers than ever to witness the brewing process of an Imperial Stout. The ALES Club was very grateful to be hosted by the Pile O’ Bones Brewery to produce 900L of this wonderful wort. Members could purchase a carboy (or 2) of wort to doctor at home in whatever creative way they desired. These beers will be consumed at the upcoming November ALES meeting and we’ll do a voting of “best in show”. For those members, mark your calendars!

We would like to thank the following for their involvement in the 2022 Big Brew Day:
- Prairie Brew Supply for supplying the specialty grains and hops
- Makers Malt for supplying the base grain
- Kith & Kin for supplying snacks
- JGL Hops for the hops
- Pile O’ Bones for allowing us to use their brewhouse
- and Nathan and Travis for lending your expertise on how to utilize the brewhouse

For those not able to attend, but wish to brew the Imperial Stout yourselves - or for those who want to input the recipe into your brewing apps - this is what we used for the wort:

Malts
- 75% English Pale Malt (Makers Malt)
- 10% Roasted Barley
- 6.6% Roasted Barley
- 3.4% Caramunich Malt
- 2.5% Pale Chocolate Malt

Bittering to 66 IBU with Galena Hops (JGL Hops)

Thanks to all who attended and supported Big Brew Day
